Rob, try www.gsmworld.com as I found this to be very helpful. It mainly
deals with the technical but should point you where you want to go for
further information.
If you are only doing data, you may want to check out the Siemens MC35
terminal from TDC (www.tdc.co.uk) as they are much cheaper sim free than a
handset (this does not include an antenna etc). They are basically a GSM
modem with GPRS capability. We use the embedded version at work. Also check
out Sony Ericsson as they have a GM47 embedded module that is very good on
price too. Not sure if this is available as a terminal version like the
MC35
but I think there is one due soon. They do however have a dev kit that
plugs
into the PC and comes with software etc.
I notice also on the TDC website that they have a GPRS starter pack. Looks
pretty good for the price. Gives you everything to get started developing.
