The company I work for repair mobile phones. (I'm a programmer, so don't
know that much about the actual *repair* just the rules, talking to
engineers etc)
Basically the rule is if the board shows signs of water damage, it's
beyond economical repair (BER). A job sheet gets printed out, stamped as
BER, signed off by the engineer etc. and the unit is sent back
unrepaired.
Basically if you send it anywhere for repair they're likely to BER it,
which should allow a claim on insurance.
Depending on where the water damage is, and what the insurance company
says, you may be able to canibalise bits off it (if its just the mobo
that's become wet you might be able to save the screen and hard disc
etc)
You may find that the laptop starts to work again once it has dried out,
but if it does, the longevity will be questionable, and if it is sent
for repair, the evidence of water damage should be enough to declare it
as BER.
