XML has an advantage of being an open, well known standard and being plain
text, can be xmitted [retty much from and to anywhere.....
embedded devices wouldn't _have_ to support an XML parser - I'm sure a
simple string search for key words and string builder for creating response
messages etc would suffice.....

If you try to create another standard then it might put ppl off developing
plugins in the future and/or you may end up with something that can't be
extended in ways not yet considered.  XML based system _should_ be
extensible....

Sounds like SOAP messages to me :)
