RE: Re: 1-wire WAS Displays round the house
The issue is that dalsemi/maxim consider 1-wire to be their proprietary
product and hence although they will help you build your own 1-wire
masters
they consider their return from the R&D to be the production and sales
of
1-wire slave devices. Between the 1-wire peeps here on this list we know
of
two people who have successfully produced pic code to act as a 1-wire
slave.
Neither as far as I am aware have been offered dispensation by dalsemi
for
their actions but in both cases the code is being kept priority for one
of
two reasons i suspect. a: dalsemi have told them they cant release
the code
or b: they believe dalsemi will drop the licensing in which case they
will
be able to sell the code for a profit. You can purchased ready burnt
pics

So what's the issue with linking a PIC or similar up to a 1-wire
network
exactly. Is the issue just that you can't use the 1-wire protocol
without
having a 1-wire device present or is it an issue with reciving and
broadcasting the 1-wire protocol direct from a Micro Controller?
