Back in the early mid eighties ultrasonics sensors were quite popular.
Thry
did have some drawbacks though , for instance in a room with no
furnishings
they were quite sensitive but when you put carpets etc the ultrasonics
would
get absorbed by the soft furnishings. Also some people could hear
the
ultrasonic transmitters .......I think they are still in use not to the
extent of pir,s.......
