The webserver was a proposed admin tool. You are right, and that a "fat application" would do equally well.

I was deliberately trying to avoid anything that relied on a particular HA controller.

Given that I have HV, my natural tendancy is to write something that just uses that. However, I figured that if I/you/whoever were going to be writing code, we might as well pick something neutral, but easy to interface.

As you're spotting, I've come at this with a relatively clean sheet, and am getting some great ideas out of what everyone's posting. It is looking, as you say, more and more like an event-driven / message-passing app as we go on.

Why the web-server? Not sure if I've missed something, but what you
have described looks like classic event-driven HA. The same kind of
thing Mr House, Homeseer, HV scripting etc all do very well. It might
be better to look at the common denominator of HA control software
and work out what kind of interface(s) would provide universal access.
