Tony,

Sorry a bit late onto the thread, but here goes...

My original WaveFinder died suddenly aged about three weeks.
After much reading a possible cause was the PSU.
It's a very poor excuse for a PSU, unregulated, and pumping out
17V without a load. Enter one regulated PSU.

Like you couldn't find one at 10V, so I tried it at 9V without
success, there is a lot of dropout of the stream. After more reading
a few ppl reported no problems with a 12V supply, so I tried that
and it's been working fine.

That said I may build a 12V-10V converter lead (inline socket, three
diodes, some shrink-wrap and a plug!) just in case...

Ian can you suggest a suitable diode (that *aplins sell?)...

On the subject of Psions finest : I really wanted to pick up the
London Muxes from here in sunny Milton Keynes (as my mate 1/2 mile
away can do it).

So I bought a *aplins directional DAB aerial, and the Psion patch
lead. Hung the aerial out of the window and... nothing. The signal
meter reads exactly the same with/out the new aerial plugged in.
Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Lee.

---Original Message---
I've managed to find those pc dc outlets (2 per board), so I'm going to get
some (page 13 of keene's 2002 catalogue, if anyones interested) and try
running most of my pc connected toys (and possibly KAT5) off of them. If the
wavefinder doesnt work at 9v (the maximum output voltage from these units)
I'll try all the suggested options.

The real problem is I know very little (if anything) about electronics. So
current/diodes/regulators leave me groping in the dark. I wish I'd taken the
time to learn about electronics (I can build a PC, but that's about it!).
e.g. I didnt realise that if I tried to run 12v dc down a length of cat5 for
any distance that I wouldnt necessarily get out the end what I put in at the
other end...

Many thanks
Tony T
