Paul,
Well... the head probably can CONTROL the changer, but....
I've seen problems where the Head can control the CD, but can't
interpret the metadata back.
Therefore the Head displays tracks as "CD1, track 1.... CD1, track
100"
rather than giving any indication of what they might be.
The metadata present in an MP3 is typically more complex than a CD...
which'll give you artist, album and track name at best.
Regards,
Markb

[ukha_d] RE: (ukha_d) OT MP3 Changer compatible with Volkswagon

there was me hoping somebody would say it's a
sony job in which case any head unit capable of manipulating a standard
auto
changer can cope with the MP3 one so i'm told by bloke at sony
Do panasonic do an MP3 changer?? If so might
try
and get one on sale or return and see if it works!
My only other option would be as you say to
yank
the whole thing out and get something different my only problem would be if
the car got nicked I would be down twice as much money as it's only insured
3rd party.
ho hum back to the drawing board me
thinks

I'm not sure there would be one. I had a Panasonic
CD changer connected to my 2000 Passat (with an adaptor), but MP3
connectivity would imply that the head unit would need to understand and
interpret file structures, MP3 tags etc etc. I doubt the Gamma unit has
this. On the up side it's nice and easy to swap out the Gamma for
something else, if you can be bothered. You could get an MP3
head unit reasonably cheap, or a HU/CD MPĀ£ changer for a bit
more.
Annoyingly (for me) Pioneer are about the only ones not doing MP3
changers.
Try www.letsbuycaraudio.com for good prices - the site's a
bit boy racer, but the service was good for
me.

Does
anyone know of an MP3 compatible multi changer that is compatible
with the Volkswagon Gamma radio as fitted in the '02
Passat.
Cheers
