Well, if you want my opinion, it's a cynical marketing ploy to sell more
of the buggers, at the expense of being frankly really fscking
irritating. Would it be hard to make the second unit code configurable?
No it wouldn't. I emailed the lads that make it, their response was "buy
more units".
