Title: [ukha_d] Re: SOM1 relay board switching sound.
Right. So, if I made the first version to support:
B1R1On - Board one, relay one turn on
B1R1Off - Board one, relay one turn off
B1R2On - Board one, relay two turn on
B1R2Off - Board one, relay two turn off
etc. etc. up to eight

The unit would return
B1R1OnOK
B1R1OffOK
etc. etc. up to eight again

Any grouping, timers and other fancy stuff would be initially controlled by the PC end. As I said earlier getting the fancy bits in will come later e.g. timers. Here I am also thinking of a PC independent unit that operates stand alone for irrigation control etc. I could even make it remember the state it was in if there was a power cut or something. Again, initially the board number would be hard coded but later I will make it so it can be programmed. I would use either 9600 or 19200 as the serial speed.

Cool or what!!

Features :

Off r1

On R2

Turn R1 in 2Min for 1hour

Flash R1 (interval)

Group Relays together like 1,2,3 so they can be toggled.

Eg When issued with the command “turn On R3” and then “turn On R2 - R3 would turn off before R2 Came on

All this can be software controlled from the plugin.

All I would need is the simple on/off instructions to send to the serial port.

What you think ?

Sounds good to me. Can you start putting together a wish list of features. I will be using a PIC micro controller and a serial interface at up to 19200. I might even make the baud rate selectable. Think about things like the commands you want to send e.g. R1 on, R1 off etc. You might want an acknowledgement as well. Lots of fun.

I am trying to keep it simple initially so commands like R1 on for 1 hour then xyz will not be in the first release.

Thanks

Ian

Hi Amar

I have ordered the PCB's so assuming no mistakes on my part boards will be available from about the 9th September. I am away on hols for a little before that ;-))

Details and pictures are on my site at www.mollyology.com then projects and relay board. At the moment it is aimed at HV and Comfort users but I will be putting together a small simple serial interface for it. This latter bit will make it very similar to the unit you have. You can be my beta tester if you like ;-))

The relay board is opto isolated as well so none of that nasty AC stuff going anywhere near your precious PC.

When I was designing my relay board I initially used reed relays which had some problems with things like capacitive loads, AC etc. The relays on the SOM1 look very similar so you may be experiencing similar problems. Check the relays are actually switching off somehow with the speakers connected and showing the problems. Alternatively use one of my boards <grin> which are rated up to 120v AC and everything else you can think of.

Loudspeakers use an AC signal, not DC. There is no concept of a
common ground, so you can't switch it that way.
