RE: Thoughts on occupancy detection

I thought they were ultrasonic but wasn't sure. I don't know enough about the two technologies to tell if there's any useful differences in detection sensitivity - that's where you guys were supposed to come in ;-))

I suspected the car ones would be cheaper 'cos you can go to a scrapyard and retrieve a load. The car ones are smaller so you could maybe have more of them ?

I'll consign this one to the long-term projects list :-)

Thanks,

Tim H.

Most cars I've seen use ultrasonic occupancy sensors. You can buy these for house alarms too (my garage has one). However, I'm not sure they will be any more useful than a conventional PIR for occupancy detection, since like PIRs, they only detect movement.

I was sitting in my car the other night and happened to notice the alarm's
internal occupancy sensors. Could these be butchered to work in a house or
do these just operate on the same principles (and therefore as successfully
or otherwise :-S) as regular alarm PIRs ??

Just a thought.
