I was just posting over on StuartP's HAMP3r group
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ukha_hamp3r/) about having some server
side s/w operating that automated playing some MP3s on the MP3 player
in lue of an alarm clock.

I truly hate setting the alarm on my clock as it's a cycle forward
only job. I'd MUCH rather write some s/w on the PC that interfaced
with regional weather reports (I get up significantly later if I'm
cycling into work when it's dry) and my schedule (Outlook, whatever)
to determine:

a) is it a weekday or weekend?
b) am I at work or on holiday today?
c) is the weather nice and likely to remain dry?
d) do I have to travel anywhere so I need to get up earlier?
e) what time did I go to bed last night, in case I had better sleep in
for an extra ten minutes.
f) is my mate in the office today and can I tap a lift?! (Hi Bob! :)

And then work out what time to do it's alarm tune thing.

It struck me that since I'll have an MP3 player in my bedroom, why not
just push MP3 data down to it at the pre-determined time, perhaps
ramping the volume up gradually to a pre-set maximum. Lots of s/w
customisability there of course.

How do you automate your alarm clocks?!
