Does any one have any idea what is different about the APC cable?  I
acquired a nice rack mount UPS but with out any cables.  When I
connect up a standard serial cable, the ups and the pc shut down instantly

Not keen on shelling out 30 odd quid for the APC cable :-(

Regards,
Jason
