I agree completely with you Mark.
If that makes someone happy, why not.
My father is almost deaf and he can never understand when I talk about Hi-Fi
because he cannot hear any difference. As long as it's loud enough it's good
for him.
Main problem in giving such advices is when people try to get an answer in
order not to go through hassle of installing all those wires just to
discover that there's no difference. It's easy to tell people to try and see
for themselves, but it's not easy to do. He just wanted to know if there
will be any benefit installing those extra wires for surround speakers and
nobody can give him straight answer. Even if you, or I can hear difference,
he might not and vice versa and only his opinion is relevant because he will
be the one listening to that.
Therefore, I couldn't give him anything but such generic answer, which is
not really an answer, just an opinion :-).

Cheers,
Nik

P.S.
It turned out later in a thread that he plans to put proper cables and
installation for surround system, but doesn't matter now ;-).

It's the law of diminishing returns.

I have "good" cables on my main system, and less-expensive ones on the
subsidiary systems.

After all, in the nursery, where the only sound source is a Rio, I'm not
actually going to buy OFC speaker cable :-)

As ever, whenever you're considering whether to buy a hi-fi upgrade / tweak
/ etc., the key advice is LISTEN TO IT IN YOUR SYSTEM. If you can hear a
difference, and you like that difference, and you think the different is
worth the money, then buy it :-)

However, just because someone can't hear a difference in your system,
doesn't mean that they have the right to generalise and make claims that the
upgrade / tweak etc. is a waste of money.

Think of it like cars - I _have_ installed an expensive racing exhaust
system on my "8", because it makes a difference (noise and performance.) My
brother, OTOH, hates driving cars, and most of his cars cost LESS than the
exhaust system I fitted (he's a biker, BTW, and his BIKE is another
story...)

Would he consider fitting a raching exhaust system to his car? No! Does he
understand why we've fitted it to ours? Yes! If only people could discuss
hi-fi with the same tolerance :-)

M.

That's fine.
But usually when people watch movies in surround environment they want it in
high quality where speaker connections and wiring matters. Connecting them
this way would not be considered as Hi-Fi (shortest speaker cables, no extra
connectors, golden plated connectors soldered with silver rich solder etc.
depending how far into extreme you would like to go).
Ask Mr. Harrison if you don't beleive me.
Therefore, I don't see much point, but if you're happy...
Cheers,
Nik
