*sigh*.  don't you just love progress?
Presumably the changed was perceived to be "for the better" to increase
sales or whatever.
Unless removing the s/w meant a dramatic drop in price so we could get it
for a "bargain" 100 notes today, it seems to me to be a step backwards to
offer the unit with no means of using it unless you are a programmer.....
