In my case a friend brought over his modem. We plugged that in, same
problem. Then we happened to try changing the cable. Fixed! I'd call
it a process of elimination and logical deduction. Or trial&error if
you prefer!

If you are running some s/w that has opened the COM port, yes.

As soon as the port is opened. You'll see it flash on when Windows
boots as it scans the ports.

When I start my s/w the light comes on, when I shut it down, off it
goes.

Have a word with Adrian Delph @ Pathway. He has an alternative offer I
believe, that Justin knows more about. Not too sure on that one.

Or you could try writing your own.

But if you do the latter, please let me know why I get extra
unexpected messages from the unit!!! Probably a bug somewhere...
