UPS

Guys

The lightening storms on yesterday showed that my UPS...erm...isn't.

The basic config is that the screen and PC are plugged into a 300Va/185w (i.e.
quite small) UPS.  When I whip the power out of the UPS the PC carries on
running, however when all the power was cut yesterday it died (I wasn't here, so
didn't see exactly what happened, but the power was only out for about 4 mins).

Now I've got about 6 USB devices plugged into the PC, as well as a couple of
hubs etc etc.  I've just manually killed all the power, and after about 15
seconds the following (XP) blue screen appears, showing the following error:

IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL  plus a bunch of other stuff that vanished before I
could read it.  So I'm assuming that the sudden removal of multiple USB and LAN
devices has caused XP to crash out.

Therefore, would it be OK to run everything through the UPS?  It only has inputs
for 2 'kettle-type' sockets, but I could obviously wire one of these sockets
onto the powerstrips.  I _think_ the overall power drain is reasonably low (the
screen is LCD).  The power supply in the PC is a 350w Enermax.  Do I need a
bigger UPS?  I'm not bothered about keeping it running for hours, just a few
minutes to get over the power spikes and dropouts that are a frequent occurrence
around here.

Pete
