As i said, only my favourite music would be encoded with FLAC.
i don`t envisage having album collections of this size.

Backward compatabilty is achieved with the use of transcoders. I use
Jreceiver to serve music to my Rio`s, using the transcoder function
allows other formats to be streamed as MP3 (ie OGG files). Simalarly,
i plan to use FLAC as my standard streaming to the Rio and transcode
other formats to that.
