My mum has actually got one of these, I noticed it last time I visited. It's a different looking model though.

She had been having some problems with her alarm system and the installers had tracked it down (or at least blamed it on) spiders getting into one of the PIR's. She lives in an old converted barn so this is always possible. The alarm company actually recommended and installed it (plugged it in).

Unfortunately it's one of those things you are never really sure whether it works or not.. but I'll ask her opinion. The first unit went faulty and although they are slightly audible in normal operation the unit started emitting some high frequency noises (I guess circa 16Khz + ) which I could hear quite clearly . Yes monitor timebases annoy me too. They swapped the unit and the second one seems fine.

I hadn't realised they injected something onto the mains - I had assumed the little window thing on the front was radiating noise somewhere above the audio spectrum. They don't mention effecting dogs so it must be quite high. Interesting they claim you need to fit one per level, wonder why this is unless they assume ring mains are on one level and it doesn't carry well through the fuse panel.
