First time poster, many month lurker, please be gentle, looking for
some newbie help...  ;-)

I've tinkered with some X10 stuff in the last few months, LW10 wall light
switches, and the basic appliance/lamp modules, no problems, primarily
for occupation appearance at this time but eventually for online house
status with cctv and so forth.

Gaining confidence, I now want to start using the LD10 stuff up
in the attic for the upstairs lights (nice and easy access), but I haven't bought
anything yet... I'm generally comfortable and cautious in equal measure
doing electrics, but don't assume anything!

a) I need to do a more thorough survey, but I suspect the upstairs wiring
is "loop-in" style, at least according to what I read in the Which? Wiring/Lighting
book. (It's a 5yr old mass-new-build). I really need to get the electric off at
the weekend for a proper poke about. Is this going to be OK for the LD10's
or should I be looking to rewire the upstairs somehow to support the LD10's.
Also, is it appropriate to position the LD10's almost at the point of usage?

b) Since several upstairs rooms use halogen lights (B&Q type stuff, nothing fancy)
I understand I need wirewound transformers. The only place I can find
these at is as below but shipping is a bit steep on a 20 quid item (p&p=10ukp)
http://www.withknobson.com/acatalog/withknobson_com_Electronic_Transformers_50.html
Any other places I can look? I've done google to death without much success.

Thanks for any help...
