RE: IR Network, was Re:
I have some pretty much working code now which produces a description of
the IR signal on a serial line at 9600. It works for most but not all IR
remotes. Currently it will send this to a PC as serial. If you send the
same signal back to the PIC it will reproduce the IR such that it controls
the original target device.
I am looking to add a (sort of and with tlimitations - Ant S ;-)) network
protocol so I can send it whereever I like over RS485 (Cat5). I have a
design for a serial to RS485 converter which should interface it nicely to
the PC.
This has worked on a bare prototype over serial.
There is more info in the IR Repeater section on my site under projects

Which is where the much discussed IR network would come in handy, if you
had
any CAT5 to send it down :-)
Seriously though. A wireless handhelp (iPaq etc) with a web page that
triggers IR via a RedRat or whatever. That is then picked up by a receiver
in
your node 0 or wherever the PC is & transmitted over the IR
network.
Ian Bird was working on such a system, and I beleive he made some good
progress, but didn't get to a working prototype. Is that right Ian?
