I had the "office apps terminate randomly" happen when installing office 2k
on an xp laptop.

After a few uninstall, restart times 3 install procedures it sorted it self
out, though I did on the final install which got it working, do a VERY
minimal install, then added one thing at a time till it had everything I
needed installed.

Just time and patients
