RE: ITV Digital Collapsed!

What I dont understand is WHY did they offer so much money for showing football.

I HATE SPORT.

ITV Digital were in trouble becuse they hadnt reached their "Break Even" point of 1.7million subscribers.
The still owe the FA  £179million.

Even by my somtimes dodgy maths, that equates to over £100 per subscriber on top of what they already paid. That means that even non sports subscribers would have been subsidising the sports viewers subscriptions.

Given the low value progamming shown on most non sports channels I believe that if the subscriptions were based on what the content actually cost then Non Sports fans could have about 50 channesl for a fiver per month and Sports fans should be paying £50 per DAY.

To cap it all, because of the fast moving content of sports they also allocated the majority of the bandwidth to Sports.

I seem to remember before the launch of digital TV that they said the improvement in picture quality would be as dramatic as the change from AM radio to CD.

Compared to the pictures I used to get from Analogue satellite the channels I have seen on ITV digital have definately gone the other way, for me the degradation is comparable to going from FM radio to Real Audio on a 28k8 modem  :-(

Sadly SKY digital seem to be doing the same by squeezing bitrates below the acceptable minimum.......Oh yeah.......and they put the prices up every year :-(

I am just surprised it took so long. The whole thing was a classic
demonstration of business and technical incompetence..
