Actually, the high intensity LEDs are less like a diode then the 1.7V
old style red ones, and you can get away with no resistor if 2 are in
series on 5 volts, they get about 7 milliamps, at 3.3 volts across the
green ones you are getting about 50mA thru them, so you will be
somewhere between the 2 extreames, but you will be sure sensative to
voltage changes causing fluctuating brightness..
