Ooh no - that might be a -very- bad idea.

You'd end up with two SIDs bound to the same MachineID/Domain Name pair. I think that would _really_ confuse Windows.

My advice would be - put your home machines in a _workgroup_ called something different from the name of your work domain. Then resign yourself to the fact that full browsing will take about 24 minutes to work from cold when you bring the laptop home. (I used to understand why - all I can remember now is that it's to do with a pair of hard-wired 12 minute timeouts in the Domain Master Browser calculation algorithm.)

Mark

You cannot just give your domain the same name as company one and asume that laptops will become members of home domain automatically. Windows looks for SID associated to that domain, not a domain name. You'll still have to create machine account in the home domain and join them although the domain names are the same.
And you'll have to take them out and join again when you plug them onto work's domain.
The only way to make it work is to establish trust relationship between two domains, I think.

Nik

To: ukha_d@xxxxxxxSubject: [ukha_d] OT Domain/workgroup Naming Question

I have a question on Domain/Workgroup names, I have 6PC's I wish to
connect to the Internet thru an ADSL router (once I get it next
month), as far as I understand it they must all have the same Domain
or workgroup name if they are to see each other, Is this correct?

My problem is that two laptops running NT have domain names assigned
by their respective companies which canot be changed, the remaining
PC's are on a home network and can be renamed to match the domain of
my laptop.

Assuming I rename the home network to match my companies laptop Can
someone please advise a solution to get the better halves laptop
talking to the other computers and more importantly the ADSL router.

In case it makes a difference the kit is
2 NT Laptop
1 NT Server
2 Win98 PC's
1 Fuji
ADSL router Vigor 2600 (when released)

Regards

Paul
