--- Begin Message --- Okay guys and gals. I have had a couple of requests for a relay board suitable for controlling the water valves RS do (and probably the one Laser supply as well).

I put together a design last night and will make and test the board over the next week or so. It has 8 opto-isolated DIL relays and two power supplies are needed, one for the HV side of things and one for the valves. I am using 5 and 12 respectively but two 12's should be fine. It has to be two supplies otherwise it won't be isolated!!

HV output ports work by opening or closing a circuit i.e. turning power on and off to the opto-isolator chips. These in turn switch power to the relay coils and hence switch the relay - easy.

To give me an idea of numbers please mail me off list if you are interested. The biggest cost is likely to be the DIL relays themselves at 1.99 each from Maplins. If there is enough interest I will get some cheaper ones from Rapid or somewhere. I need a reasonable number to avoid carriage though. The board can of course be supplied in a trimmed down state i.e. 1 opto chip and x relays. Just add the other components as you need them. I will work out a cost and let people know directly after they send me an 'I'm interested' mail. I will also put details on my site some time but there are only so many hours in a day.

My best guess for a bare board will be about a tenner then chips and relays on top - all at cost of course or supply yourself. Unregulated power supplies should be fine to keep the cost down.
