As it happens ive just checked and I still havent installed the service
pack on this machine. (newly rebuilt).  Ill have to get the  files from
work tomorrow and re install it.

Glad to hear it all works for you :-)

And now can I suggest you re-install SP2 for win2k ... I'm not sure what
patch level those files were taken from. It was only
needed for XP users, to try to sort the way it handle USB power ... but
now you've worked through the process, helping your
friend should be a doodle :-)
