Keith,

I'll have a look at it again tonight & post the info.
Don't worry, I'm not using it as the buzzing is too loud.

What is the power rating ?
Physically how big is it ?

By the sounds of what you describe it is just an adapter with a Diode in series which will not reduce the voltage but give power for 50% of the time. Some appliances (notable heater type things like Irons) would be OK with this but anything with a transformer will complain bitterly as you describe.

WORSE STILL.... the transformer core will become saturated and cease to be an inductor, at which point there is nothing to limit the rise of current and it can self destruct :-(

You need to supply more info but until then ....DONT USE IT.

Peeps,

I bought a parasound audio amp >from suitable converter (from craplin I think it was) - a two socket
cylinder jobbie, which has a higher power rating than the usual wall wart
type step down transformers I use.
Anyway, the amp buzzes rather annoyingly when plugged in & I don't know if
it's the amp or the step down converter causing the problem.
I don't have any other 110v amps to try with the transformer, though I did
use my audiotron & had no problems with that.
Also, I don't want to try my other transformers with the amp as they do not
have a high enough power rating - also, I think they might only support the
two identical pin type connectors rather than the one larger than the other
type....

I know it's a bit vague, but any ideas how I can identify what the problem
might be?

cheers,

Tony
