    You can force either by unchecking one in the 'channels I receive', otherwise it uses the lowest numbered channel I believe which will be the STB/AUX normally.
 
    A lot of early TIVO's did not decode Nicam reliably from an RF aerial source - I think most of Mr Tonks units have this problem - works in some areas but not others - there is a free fix available that requires a surface mount resistor to be changed. I had mine done - it does fix it.
 
    The point being that if you do have this problem then having Tivo record off the STB box gets around it as the stereo is decoded already. The quality is obviously better too - however the negative is that Tivo uses the STB for all the terrestrial channels which means it swaps channels around on it a lot - I have forced Tivo to use the RF supplied signal where possible to avoid this - allows you to watch whatever you want whilst Tivo is recording terrestrial TV.

TiVo chooses the one it perceives as the highest quality...which is the one
on AUX rather than it's internal tuner.
