Well you could still have an Archive of DVDs? I’ve been messing about with capturing Video from my TIVO to Mpeg and offloading to CD-R. Sticking with SVCD at the minute so SWMBO can bang them into the DVD player, but the price of a DVD writer is nearly within reach. The DVD media is also falling. I’ll give it 6 months then would imagine most on the list will have a DVD writer J

Cheers

Don

Simply because if I go straight to DVD then I would want it online / on demand and that would mean more DVD changers ...

... I like having an "archive".

Bit like having a magazine rack in the living room which has all the stuff you read day to day but a library in the study. It's just personal preference.

I suppose I could network the TiVo and then archive programs to DVD ... has anyone got the extraction code written to allow proper "playable" DVD streams to be created from TiVo data?

Why not straight to DVD Phil? I’m sure you have a valid reason, just like to know what it is J

I archived some recordings to tape from TiVo earlier this week ... was watching through them to make sure they'd recorded OK. I thought "This is gash ... Jesus! Tape is bad" ... and then realised that I *HAD* used S-VHS tape and it was an S-VHS recording. I can't even bring myself to watch VHS now!

I now just need a D-VHS deck to archive off TiVo recordings! (Another "toy" for the list.)

Was in Makro last night with my B-i-law.  He picked up a 6 head, NICAM,
Video Plus & NTSC playback VCR for 69.99 + VAT.  Throw away prices or what.

Ah...tape based video recording...the memories :)

M.
