Hi All,

Thought I'd share my lastest 'homebuild' success with you all.

I've just completed construction of the large IDE disk server I
descirbed some time ago.

for ~=A38000 my collegues now have use of a single 1.7TB network mounted disk.

The technical details as follows.

1  Server Case with 810W PSU 23 5.25 Drive Bays
11 3-2 Disk carriers, giving 33 3.5" IDE drive slots
2  IDE RAID Cards
8  75GB IBM Drives
8  160GB MAXTOR Drives
2  Netgear Gigabit network cards
1  Tiger Athlon MP motherboard
2  Duron 1.2 GHz CPU's
2  256 MB DDR Dimms

The prime purpose of the above is to server the disk space to 2
different and indepenent networks. This is done using a very tweaked
version of Redhat 7.1 with a 2.4.18 kernel, and SGI's XFS filesystem,
the output from df is included below.

Filesystem           = ; Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda6           =    37G  5.3G   29G  16% /
/dev/hda1           =    30M  7.4M   21M  26% /boot
/dev/whitevg1/whitelv1
            &nb= sp;         1.7T  489G  1= .2T  28% /data1

By my reconning thats alot of MP3 Space.

The case still has space for an additional 16 drives, using 32 160GB
drives would give a capacity of ~5TB for just under =A312K

Anyone wanting any futher info then feel free to contact me off-list,
and before anyone asks at 70KG I'm not bringing it to the meeting.

Cheers

Stuart
