Thought I'd better raise my head above the parapet and offer Jerome
some moral support...

I've only just started on my HA adventure, and plan to use one of my
(several) old Macs as a dedicated HA machine. Once I've retrieved
said machine - either a IIcx or a Duo 230 (but it needs a new
battery!) - from deep storage, I will get to grips with choosing
software to run on it. Have briefly looked at both Xtension and
Thinking Home but no decision yet.

If this group was typical of all computer users, there should be
around 30-40 Mac owners. I suspect that since HA still seems to be
mainly the domain of those who like to get their hands messy and
modify things, the Mac proportion would be much lower (for those who
don't know, <Sweeping_Generalisation_Mode=ON> most people who buy
Macs have them as a tool to do do a job, rather than to play around
with. <Sweeping_Generalisation_Mode=OFF>)

Like others here, I'm not interested in getting drawn into a "mine's
better than yours" OS argument. Suffice to say that in my work and at
home I've never found the need to run a PC; I bought a copy of
SoftWindows for the Mac a few years ago just in case, and haven't run
it in over 5 years. In business I would evaluate each customer's
requirement, and specify the most appropriate system - maybe a PC,
maybe a Mac, maybe a RiscPC - or sometimes, no technology at all.

Appropriate Technology... define the job, then use the right tool
