I have cut the rough holes in my DVD drive for the top of my computer,
and im making the solid bit for the axle support over the track for the
laser so that it will block it if its got no disk in there.

Lasers in these things are focussed, do they are a point a few mm above
the surface and then they become wider and wider, at 10-20cm away, they
are covering a fair area, so not particually high inensity, and your not
going to stare into them, no worse then a laser pointer really except
that its invisable in CD mode (red in DVD mode) and nobody but an idiot
would start into that.

If you were to put your retina where the laser is focused into a spot,
yeah, problems :)

I want to get a way of strobing some white LEDs with the spin motor so
it freeses the disk, but I think my aged dxr2 drives being in pieces so
many times the connectors for the ribbons are going to fail soon..
