Title: Message

I’m pretty sure that functionality is limited to just the live cache but may be wrong, a post to the AVS forum www.tivocommunity.com will certainly get a response winging back pretty quickly.

Sorry if I’ve misunderstood the earlier thread, as long as we all agree that bypassing subscriptions is not in anyones interestJ. I must admit, as a relatively new TiVo owner, I would love the functionality of a 2nd TiVo for overlaps etc. especially if they could be linked and integrated into the TiVo OS. There is no way I would pay a second full subscription though J

Cheers

Don

My understanding is that without a subscription you can still record manual start and end times for particular channels.

Are you sure that the below info is right ??

and Don .. this is not so much an issue of bypassing subscription charges but a discussion of how to have several Tivos working in harmony in one household - something that is not achievable whether you subscribe or not - I see that as appropriate to this forum, I agree that evading a sub fee by hacking is not in the interest of Tivo owners at all (we need Tivo to stay in business and I already have a full subscription), but them thinking about how to provide a solution to this issue and offering a solution is in everyone's interest, and probably best solved by some more development work and a reduced second subscription like SKY do.

Guys, Without a subscription the machine is next to useless. You cannot manually set up recordings all you can do is capture the 30mins live TV cache and nothing else, zippo.

The whole concept of the TiVo is based on the subscription and the automatic download of the enriched (!) TV listings. I know it sounds a lot but it really is worth the outlay to get the sub.

As someone else mentioned, the discussion of subscription dodging is frowned upon in the TiVo forums. Whilst it probably is technically achievable, it is not encouraged. This is presumably to stop people taking revenue from TiVo to ensure they remain in business and develop the platform.

If you wish to continue discussing bypassing subscription charges, can you take it off list please.

Actually I am thinking about using Digiguide with a bit of programming to automatically send the IR commands to a Tivo without a subscription

Not sure how this will help. I thought that you could not add manual recordings without a subscription. What IR commands are you planning to send?
