I agree - the way our elected leaders (of both colours) have handled the telecoms industry has been unfortunate.

However, I do wonder what BT could have been if it had been well-run.

Inheriting an ageing badly run copper network - with everyone in the city saying that the local loop
is a millstone around BTs neck - then spending billions on improving the quality of the network - then having improved the network everybody else says ooh can we have a share of that please - for nowt ???

Meanwhile the government encouraged some American companies to build extra infrastructure which wasn't needed, whilst telling BT that fibre to the home was not needed.

Why the local loop couldn't have been hived off and upgraded by all the companies everywhere
only a politician could answer :-)

Multiple choice question:

BT's value proposition is based on:

A: Providing innovative leading-edge data services to the general public
B: World-class customer service
C: Exceptional value for money
D: Inheriting a monopoly position and free infrastructure

Tick one (1) answer.

Regards,

Mark

Just tried phoning DFS as we are still waiting on a couple of sofas and
it was engaged ... I put the phone down and tried again a couple of
times. Jo (SWMBO) said "You can use ringback" ... I explained that I
wasn't gonna pay BT 10p for the priveledge and she obviously was unaware
of the charge from her reaction.

Listening to the recorded message that is given when you get an engaged
tone there is sufficient pause between the words "To use ringback please
press 5" and "There is normally a charge for this service" for the user
to have gone and pressed 5 and never hear the second sentence.

BAD PRACTICE GUYS!

Phil
