The main choices I had were:-
* Garage (joined to the house)
* Loft
* Hall Cubboard that is sort of under the stairs.
* Kitchen where the fuse box is (not much room here)

I chose the the Hall cubboard as this was the most central place in the
house.  This allowed me to install cat 5 most easily from the lounge and
dining room, and enabled me to get the floor up in the hall way upstairs to
run leads from all round the house into the patch panel.

All I have / intende to have in the cuboard apart from coats, carrier bags,
ironing board etc is.

* Main Patch panel (connects to the sockets round the house)
* Small B&Q patch pannel, for patching phone sockets, possibly for IR etc
* Double Mains socket
* Network Hub/Switch (not yet)
* ADSL router (not yet)

Well I guess not very often, but I don't want to have to get out the loft
lader when I do.  Think of it this way, do you need to go into the loft to
reset a mains trip switch if it goes?  Also with it being in a central place
I can easily show visitors what all this cat 5 stuff is all about.  If I was
selling the house would viewers want to look in the loft?

At the end of the day I guess it depends on the layout of your house, and
how much work you'll need to put in if your doing a retro fit.
