Radio Shack/Tandy used to be good for this kind of kit... but I think
they've closed all their branches now. My father has a 12V power pack
from them which he uses for a similar purpose - it has a cigar
lighter socket.

Alternatively, you could pick up a surplus switched mode or bench PSU
from Display Electronics. (www.distel.co.uk)
