Paul,
A lot depends on whether you're trying to protect them against
"accidentally stumbling on dodgy material", or whether you're
trying to
protect them against "using all their inventiveness to find naughty
stuff."
The most pragmatic approach is to do nothing in the way of fancy
software, other than idly mention that the "network" is logging
all the
sites they visit.
There are two approaches to trying to block naughty stuff:
1: Maintain (or buy) a list of sites that are blocked.
2: Try to inspect the content and block anything that looks naughty on
the fly.
1 - is hard ;-)
2 - is hard, and works better for words than pictures...

Guys,
I am now get close to being sorted. I have the network
running, I am using a Linux box as my main server, doing Print server,
File server, backups and DHCP. As well as routing. I am looking to also
us it for DNS. I will be installing Smooth wall and then connecting via
HH to the internet.
Two things now come to mind and will need sorting before going live.
1. How can I protect the nephews from dodgy internet sites. I would
like to do this at the Linux box so as not to install software on all
attached PC's. I know that there is no way to stop it completely but
there must something I can do.
2. Should I use NTL and a cable modem or stick with HH and Channel
bonding ?
TIA.
Paul
