I've just started pulling in my first CAT5 runs and thought that I'd
better get myself a cable tester to ensure that I don't end up with
any faulty cable pairs behind new plaster.

Anyway I plumped for the Maplin one that Steve Gordon bought, as like
Steve, Maplin was handy.

Unfortunately I didn't look at the tester before I bought it and I
naively thought that I could just connect bare cable ends to it!
It turns out that the cables have to have plugs on the end and
I just hadn't bargained for that.
So has anybody got any suggestions as to what's the best course
of action?
If I buy a crimping tool and some plugs, can I reuse the plugs?
The simplest solution that I've come up with so far would be to
buy two plugs and crimp a piece of cable onto each of them with 8
croc clips on the end of that or even a piece of chocolate block?

Is it possible/practical to get a tester that just takes bare
cable ends?

Tracey
