Course.

Phil is correct - selecting PCM will downmix the AC3 signal to straight -
well, PCM !

same as the dvd player. You set it to pcm if you plug it into a decoder
that cant do AC3 (but has a toslink)

Not at all ... if the Sky+ box can be forced to only output PCM stereo *OR*
Dolby Digital then that's fine . Switched to Dolby Digital only and hooked
up to an AV amp then an AC-3 encoded signal would have the full five
channels (3/2) and a stereo signal would only use 2 channels (2/0). This is
the way it should be. Switched to PCM and linked to an external DAC (for
example) then you would receive straight stereo - again, as you would
expect.

What is most likely is that the will provide *EITHER* PCM stereo *OR* PCM
stereo + Dolby Digital (AC-3).

I don't see how there's a problem...
