Re: GPS WAS Locations, an idea.

Thanks everyone for replies on this. Looks like cheap GPS & Autoroute is the way to go.
I have seen that the pocket streets (windows CE version) that comes with Autoroute 2002 has GPS support but it look like you need CE 3 so no luck with the Epods :-(.
I read somewhere that you need to hack Autoroute to change the default 5 second update - does anyone have details on this?

I liked the idea of the streetmate but Phil has put me off (unless one comes up cheap on ebay)

4. Sony streetmate - £180 at www.gpsw.co.uk ( thanks for the link Steve) - still need laptop

Please be aware that this software does not work under Win2k or WinME and that it is effectively unsupported now. The maps are out of date & the online updates have been discontinued. It was also for some reason unable to place me correctly when I was at John Hills house one evening (it took a "fix" as though I was two streets away!) whereas the eTrex and AutoRoute got it spot on!

The StreetMate is the better solution *FACILITIES WISE* for the driver as it has "direction of travel up" which rotates the map as you turn so you're always travelling "up" the screen and it has the remote (which is superb).

Also the turn directions (which are spoken on the StreetMate) are often too late ... sometimes actually by the sliproad on a motorway

Ideally MicroSnot would support the StreetMate hardware and add the "direction of travel up" facility to the software - then things would be cool!
