Learning curve is really in the setup/install side of things with MYSQL.
Apart from that, MYSQL really is excellent, and support from the community
is excellent. I work in a hospital, we developed a system using MS SQL as
the backend, however when we counted up how much we needed to spend on SQL
CALs, I suggested MYSQL and it took about 1 day for our coder to change
over, most of this was install/config. Actual code changes were minimal,
mainly the connection string.
