OK - it turns out that the legislation was more subtle than that. It's
the "traditional style" banana plugs and sockets that have been
banned.

however I take your point, from the underside they do not look like they
would take the full length.

They look like binding posts, which are fine. Banana sockets are deeper.

That'll explain why I couldn't find them on letsautomate!  I guess you
can
still get binding post connectors without banana connectors??  Any idea
where I can get these from?
