Even whilst looking fate squarely in the eye I can't help looking for a
bargain...

I was heading into Winchester to go see the Social Security today to see
about signing on when I passed a stonemasons that I had never seen before
as
usually I would have been driving whereas this time I'd decided to walk.

I had been looking for some granite or marble shelves for my AV / hifi kit
on and off over the last few years but they've always been too expensive to
get made up and so I tend to drop into these places just on the off chance
that they have something suitable as off cuts.

Well, this time I've come up trumps! 10 slabs of 700 x 900mm 15mm thick Red
Balmoral granite. Already polished on the top surface and front edge as
they
were bought in for a job for an Architect but the Architect went bust and
left them with these slabs. £380 a square metre normally but if I
want it
(as it's been cut down to 700x900 and polished then it's not of much use to
anyone else) then I can have the lot for £400.

I would have lobbed it on the card and fetched the car there and then but
they don't take plastic :-(, I think I may have to try to scrape up
£400
from somewhere!

Phil
