Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a "UK format" as such
(in
the sense of a mandated standard). What you refer to as "UK
format"
is simply the format which BT decided to adopt (for various reasons,
most of which are quite sane for a change). Because of BT's market
dominance, this has effectively become the "UK format".
