Given the way that the additional serial ports seem to cause problems with
seemingly everything that gets attached to them (remember the Pronto
problem) do you have a basic spec machine that you can keep
"clean" and just
use for testing new kit.
I have a problem that I'm trying to resolve with Acer over a film scanner
which doesn't work correctly under Win2k Pro/Server ... to remove the
possibility of software and hardware conflicts I have an AMD K6-2 266 with
only a graphics card and their supplied SCSI card. I have two IDE caddies -
one installed with Windows NT 4.0 and the other with Win 2k, the latest
service packs are installed on each and then the scanner software is
installed. Nt works, Win2k doesn't ... Acer are talking with me about this
at the moment but it makes it so easy to prove out problems.
Once the problem is resolved then that machine will be cleared down again
and used for Jo's day to day PC.
If you can get a tightly controlled environment for testing the unit out on
then it'll be a lot quicker to resolve the problems...
