Dry Ice and Smoke Machines are too very different devices..

Dry Ice is Frozen Co2 - this produces the effect of the smoke effect
frequently used on the tv - i.e smoke around your feet as dry ice
naturally sinks. Dry ice will not do you a lot of good if you swallow
lots of it. - alos the material is dangerous to handle and needs
special storage

Smoke machines fall into 2 categories the traditional Fog type and
Hazers - Fog machines use a liquid that is heated and produces a fog,
used for highlighting lighting effects, or flooding an area with
smoke - typically used in nightclubs. This is airbourne smoke, it
will not sink in the way Dry Ice does. and is not harmful if
swallowed.

Hazers produce a water vapour that fills the air, very expencive to
buy, and use, but do not set of smoke alarms in hotels, as they only
use water vapours.

As to where to hire one, try looking for a disco shop, they usually
operate a hire service.

Dan "ex DJ" James :-)
