I've certainly done this joining networks in buildings either side of a

You can't use a Wireless Access Point (in the sense of the bit of kit
that you normally have at the centre of a wireless LAN, which acts as
a bridge) in this way, because it won't associate with another
Wireless Access Point -- AP's won't work peer-to-peer (at least I've
never found any that would, and can see fundamental problems from a
protocol perspective with this approach).
