Re: A Cautionary Tale

Title: A Cautionary Tale

A proper auto-responder shouldn't respond to mailing list mail and even if it did it should keep track of which addresses it has replied to and only do it once (or once/week).

Subject: [ukha_d] A Cautionary Tale

Guys,

I belong to another group from Yahoo about road fuel and taxation and today something happened that should be a warning to all!

One plonker on a permanent connection, routed to his work mailing address had an auto-responder on, this, effectively, created a feedback loop on the Yahoo system resulting in literally hundreds of mails being sent because of this idiot. So the morale of the tale issending Yahoo mailings to something other than a work mail address if your company uses auto-responders.

It has taken many of us hours to clear down this stupid mistake.

For this reason, Mark, could you check the bounce status on my address and reset it if needed; you need to be a moderator to do this as far as I can see. Thanks.

K.

Very pissed off I might add as I think I’ve missed loads of mail due to allocations being exceeded!
