For the future...

How about having bluetooth tranceivers around the house, (several in each
room, on the end of all this cat5 of course) and we all carry a bluetooth
enabled phone/remote/pda, you can then figure out who is in each room and
where.

can't be more than a couple of years away, if bluetooth ever gets sorted
(and I win the lottery!)
